Hugh Kininmonth - Chief Executive
Hugh has acted as Chief Executive since HPHO's inception on 1 July 2003. In addition to establishing the organisation, my key focus is to work with all HPHO practice teams to ensure growth and development of high-quality community-based services. I support HPHO's diverse activities to operate cost-effectively in a continually changing environment.
I have acted as Chief Executive of an Iwi Maori Health Provider, Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki from September 2000 until 30 June 2012 where I provided strategic direction and operational leadership to ensure the growth and development of high-quality Maori health services for all people in Hauraki communities. Operations grew over 1,000% in ten years, and is now one of the area's largest employers.
My health management experience also includes acting as Chief Executive of Comprehensive Health Services (an Auckland-based IPA) from September 1997 to June 2005 and as General Manager at Midland Regional Health Authority from December 1994 to September 1994.
My governance experience includes nine years as a Director of Shorecare Accident & Medical Centre's, Auckland and as a seconded member of Waitemata District Health Board for two years from its establishment in March 2001.
Previous to health management experience, I have had 10 years in Tokyo, Japan working in international public relations and corporate communications. I hold a Master of Health Management, a Post-graduate Diploma in Business from Auckland University and a Bachelor of Arts from Waikato University.
