COVID-19 Update - August 12th 2020

12/8/2020

You will be aware that four cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Auckland that, at this point, cannot be traced.

As announced by the Prime Minister and Director-General last night, the metro-Auckland region from Warkworth to Pukekohe moved to Level 3 lockdown at 12 noon today (12 August) until midnight Friday (14 August).

Waikato, with the rest of the country, moved to Level 2 from 12 noon today (12 August) until midnight Friday (14 August).  The Prime Minister and Director General of Health are giving twice daily updates where further information will be provided.

You will be well aware that as a contracted health provider members of your staff are essential workers.  Further specific advice will be forthcoming and we will ensure that our team, and in particular your funding and relationship manager, is linked in with you.

While there will be an increase in public concern following confirmation of these cases, we have our escalation processes and procedures ready to activate so that Waikato DHB is well placed to deal with any resurgence of COVID-19.  This includes:

  • All health services will continue to operate under Level 2. (You will be aware that Aged Care residential services have however been placed in lockdown.)
  • Testing facilities in the community are being ramped up immediately.  Please check our website for locations and opening hours.
  • We will be establishing additional CBACs in the next day or two.
This is a timely reminder to everyone to remain vigilant. As you know, the messages have not changed. If you are unwell, stay home and get tested if you have symptoms associated with COVID-19. Maintain a high level of hand hygiene and ensure you cough or sneeze into your elbow. Maintain physical distancing where possible. Guidance on the use of PPE is available on the Ministry of Health website.

I will be in touch again soon. In the meantime if you have any concerns please contact your funding and relationship manager.

Stay safe and stay well.

Ngaa mihi nui

Tanya Maloney
