Free diabetes education for Diabetes Action Month.

9/11/2020

To acknowledge diabetes action month, Hauraki PHO is supporting whānau by offering a free diabetes education consultation to anyone diagnosed with diabetes or pre diabetes in the Month of November 2020.
continued...
While some clinics already offer this to whānau, we would like to ensure that everyone gets the best start in their diabetes journey this month. The focus of the month is “Kei whakawā”. Me aroha. Love, don’t judge.

Many whānau with diabetes feel as though the diagnosis is shameful and that they must have caused their diabetes. Issues of weight and choices in kai are just a small part of type 2 diabetes but the public is often quick to judge. Whānau internalise this message and this can be one of the barriers to them not seeking help when they need it.  Having the opportunity to sit with a nurse when they are first diagnosed to learn what diabetes is can allay these misconceptions.

To claim, use the new diabetes support claim form. The GP and nurse name are required, as is HbA1c, date of HbA1c and if Metformin is started or not. Under the second oral choice simply write newly diagnosed and the date of diagnosis. (This must be November 2020).
