Please distribute this notification as appropriate within your organisation. continued...
In particular, we would like to know if these indicators are addressing an area of clinical importance that could improve the quality of care for people with pancreatic cancer and if measuring and monitoring the indicator be useful to support clinical process improvements for pancreatic cancer at a district health board or hospital level as well as any other relevant information to consider. In Aotearoa New Zealand, there are more than 600 new cases of pancreatic cancer diagnosed each year. Anyone can be affected by this cancer however it is more commonly found in people over the age of 45 years and slightly more so for Māori and Pacific peoples. As part of our ongoing work to improve outcomes for cancer patients Te Aho o Te Kahu, Cancer Control Agency, with the National Pancreatic Cancer Working Group, have developed a set of seventeen potential quality performance indicators (QPIs) for pancreatic cancer. To calculate these indicators, data from existing Ministry of Health National Collections will be used. Where data is not available or of high enough quality to use, the QPI for which this is the case will not be calculated. Instead work will be undertaken to improve the data sources with the aim of calculating and reporting on that QPI in future. Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the 15-minute survey on proposed pancreatic cancer quality performance indicators (at the end of the consultations page, on our website). If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us on pancreaticqpiconsultation@teaho.govt.nz. Ngā mihi nui Comments are closed.
