*             Understanding the context of child abuse in Aotearoa New Zealand including the current national approach to preventing and addressing child abuse and neglect

*             Understanding the concept of vulnerability and factors that contribute to vulnerability and risk

*             Understanding the barriers to intervening when children are at risk

*             Understanding the nature and effects of trauma specifically focusing on family violence, child abuse and neglect

*             Identifying the different types of child abuse and neglect including exploitation of children, and recognise indicators and signs of child abuse and neglect

*             How to identify and intervene early when children and young people are vulnerable to child abuse and neglect

*             How to respond to children and young people when abuse is suspected or disclosed

*             Understanding policy and legal requirements and processes for responding to, and reporting, child abuse and neglect.

*             Where to refer children, young people, families and whānau for support

*             An opportunity to implement new learning in practice through the use of case studies
