Community Registered Nurses have been authorised by the Clinical laboratory governance group (CLCGG) to initiate a small range of laboratory tests, mostly specific to chronic condition management, informed by the Primary care handbook and BPAC Clinical advisory team.
This has been agreed upon after a robust review and discussion by CLCGG with input from HPHO Medical Director Dr Wendy Carrol and Dr Tarun Sharma (CLCGG HPHO representative).
The aim of primary care screening is to ensure patient’s laboratory tests are ordered in a timely manner to facilitate the GP/NP to aid earlier diagnosis and better health outcomes for patients ‘better, sooner, more convenient care’. HPHO’s Nga Kaitiaki Manawanui Whai Ora team will be rolling this out over the next month and then will offer to support practices to role this out to their nurses within the practices thereafter.
Interested practices can contact Ashleigh Battaerd, Nurse Practitioner on Ashleigh.firstname.lastname@example.org for a copy of the document with the tests included.
