We are amid a mumps outbreak centred in Hamilton and would like to remind general practice to notify our Public Health Unit also on suspicion ( not just confirmed cases). This is required in law and in our published guidance.
Flow chart and info on how to notify is included in this link https://www.waikatodhb.health.nz/your-health/public-health-services-and-alerts/notifiable-and-communicable-diseases/.
Please note we recommend buccal swab (PCR) not serology for diagnostic testing. Please also note the lab may not process the swabs unless the Public Health Unit has been notified
