Indian Immunisation Vaccination schedule in India

10 Sep 2019

Due to the recent measles outbreak in New Zealand, one may be asked about vaccinations given in India for their Indian patients who have immigrated to New Zealand. Up until 2010 their national immunisation schedule had one MMR vaccine given at 9 months.

A pilot project was started in Delhi and the Universal Immunisation Programme was run between 2004 and 2006 so some children received their second dose at 15 months. In 2010 India introduced a second dose of measles vaccine in the national immunisation program. Measles vaccination in India has two dosages now: 9 months and 15 months. Vaccine given before 12 months doesn’t amount to an immune response.
