The Ministry of Health has requested that Waikato DHB undertake 1,500 COVID-19 tests on asymptomatic people each week for the next 4 weeks. There will be a particular focus on those working in essential services – including General Practice and Pharmacy staff.
No follow up required for negative asymptomatic patients
This will result in a large increase in the number of lab results GPs see in their inbox. These results should clearly state if the patient was asymptomatic – if so – no GP follow up is required. Unless, in the unlikely situation where the result is positive.
More information will follow in the next few days around the logistics of testing practice staff. We are assuming such testing would be undertaken on a voluntary basis.
